How to care for your gold jewellery so it lasts a lifetime

Gold is a precious, durable metal, but it needs a little care to keep its shine. Here are our Bordeaux jewellers' tips for looking after your jewellery day to day.

Regular cleaning

A lukewarm bath with a few drops of mild washing-up liquid, a gentle pass with a soft toothbrush, then a rinse in clean water: that is all it takes to bring back the shine of your gold jewellery.

Storage

Keep each piece separately to avoid scratches. Fabric pouches or the individual compartments of a jewellery box are ideal. Avoid humidity and large temperature changes.

What to avoid

Take your jewellery off before washing up, swimming in a pool (chlorine attacks gold) or playing sport. Corrosive household products and ultrasonic cleaners can damage some stones.
