Price per gram of gold by carat
Jewellery is never pure gold: 18-carat gold, the most common in France, contains 750 thousandths of fine gold, the rest being an alloy of silver and copper that gives it strength and colour. The value of the metal is therefore calculated from the fine gold price and the fineness, indicated by the hallmark (an eagle's head for 18-carat gold in France).
| Fineness | Thousandths | Metal value per gram |
|---|---|---|
| Fine gold 24 carats | 999 ‰ | €119.02 |
| 22-carat gold | 916.7 ‰ | €109.21 |
| 18-carat gold | 750 ‰ | €89.35 |
| 14-carat gold | 585 ‰ | €69.69 |
| 9-carat gold | 375 ‰ | €44.68 |
| 20-franc Napoleon | 900 ‰ (5.81 g of fine gold) | €691.71 per coin |
These amounts correspond to the value of the metal alone: a basis for calculation, not a buying offer. The price we offer you is set in store, after a free valuation of your pieces (fineness, weight, condition, any collector's or signature value), with prices adjusted every hour.
